not discovery but constitution

What is essential to creation is not ‘discovery’ but constituting the new: art does not discover, it constitutes; and the relation between what it constitutes and the ‘real’, an exceedingly complex relation to be sure, is not a relation of verification. And on the social plane, which is our main interest here, the emergence of new institutions and of new ways of living is not a ‘discovery’ either but an active constitution.
